As a boy (yes, I was one once) aged about 10, I used to climb up on the walls of this castle while on holiday with my parents at Rhyl. (They don't let you do it now). From the top of the towers I used to make a noise and watch visitors turn round and find nobody there!
Only now, all these years later, do I realise that this is where I developed my first scrambling skills at just the right age.
By contrast, as school I was left shivering on the shallow end of the swimming pool, while the teachers took an interest only in the good swimmers (who could of course win trophies for the school). I therefore developed no swimming skills, at the same age, and still cannot swim. There is a moral here.
