Apologies for misspelling your brother's surname, Sigurd.
Or if you would just like to reminisce about athletics and/or Brighton, then send me a private message if you prefer - not that I know much about middle-distance running (or swimming!), although I remember the Ovett/Coe era quite well. Did you ever run in the Southern 12-Stage Road Relay?
I've found an announcement online saying that a mountaineer called Gordon Aird Patterson died of MND on 12/05/2017 – if he was your relative then I'm very sorry, and why not tell us more about him rather than just uploading photos? You could also tell us about some of the interesting things you have done, say how you have been coping with lockdown, and invite people to share their stories too – continue here, or start a thread maybe?
We used to visit friends and relatives in Brighton every few weeks until my mid teens. Do you remember Andy Cooper, the eccentric barber in Baker Street? He was an army barber with the Desert Rats in WWII and my dad was an RSM, so they got on like a house on fire! If he was in an even worse mood than normal, then you would come out of his shop nearly bald!

My parents lived in Brighton until 1957 (in Waterloo Place, near St Peter's Church and The Level) so I have a bit of a connection with the city. They belonged to Brighton Swimming Club - dad said he sometimes used to swim to the end of Palace Pier and back (always with a boat for safety) which was notorious for the strong current, and (as in your photo posted on 14/05/20) also from Palace Pier to West Pier and back. He said he and some others used to go in the sea every day of the year! I also remember that he had some sort of life-saving qualification.
An interesting photo, Sigurd, and well done. When was it taken and what time did you run? I've been a member of an athletics club since 1979, and I ran the London to Brighton a few times - I sometimes feel a bit despondent about how little I can do now compared with what I used to be able to (I no longer run at all).
