Knees are strange things and take a while to get back to normal, just be patient and whatever you do don't overdo it. I know from experience.
The Nipster was at home in the warm, last time I did this walk with him in the late summer he sat down around the 8 mile mark and didn't budge. I had to bribe him with my last few biscuits to get him to the car and then I had to lift him in as well.
