Thanks mirador I agree with everything you say.
I greatly respect your courage Syd, both in dealing with such a threatening illness and your openness about it.
There are certainly members of OD who are less fit and happy to do shorter or less challenging walks so do seek them out, or issue invitations appropriate to the level you are at and see who comes along.
I agree that extreme caution in what is revealed about children on line is a good idea but I also feel there is room to accommodate children on walks.
There are single members whose opportunities to attend events are limited by having care of children. It makes perfect sense for those in the same boat to arrange events around children, so long as the objective is made clear
Philtheetiler: 😀 😀
I was reading an article last night about fathers and sons and memories
came flooding back of the time I took my son out for his first pint.
Got him a Fosters ...... he didn't like it - I had it.
Then I got him Carlsberg, he didn't like it so I had it.
It was the same with Guinness and Cider.
By the time we got down to the whisky I could hardly push the bloody
pram!!!
Bye and thanks Smooze. have a nice day. I will have a chat one day. Going to drive out and walk up Bull Hill. Hope the rain stays away
Thanks Smooze. I am thinking very carefully about whether or not to upload anymore photos of my kids on walks. I will NOT upload any portrait kind of shots and will ponder whether outdoor shots with mountains etc will be OK. Best Wishes Syd xx
I meant hillmale sorry
Look forward to the walk hillside and I will stay this side of the grass for many years to come......my kids have no one but me so I must stay around for a while yet
hillmale: I certainly am! 😉😈
Johnny: Ouch!!!
Outdoor man: Keep the positive attitude going. A reason to go on can be half the battle and you certainly have two of those! 🙂
....and as for women, I wouldn't bother looking for one she'll only sap your strength then youll never get out 🙂 but keep the faith mate
It most certainly is not an adult site!!!😮:~:~
It is a site for people of a certain age who happen to be adults! 😋😈😈😈😈
Brilliant hillmale I am not giving in. The doctors tell me I have about 50% chance of surviving. No way. I am going to live. My kids need me. And I have got some walking to do. Well done hillmate. I will follow in your footsteps
Tanks Johnny and Pear Drop. People like you give me hope. I will look to join some walks soon. From being a fitness fanatic to losing 6 stone in 3 months takes some doing but am am back fighting and can't wait to meet you all xx
Outdoor man: well Syd, well done for the positive attitude and there are some people on here cant even walk that far, so you've come to the right place, you will be able to join in the small walks and finish when you think you've done enough, and you will meet a new bunch of friends
Outdoor man: Whatever anyone thinks about the issues raised on the forum, your boys should be very proud of you. Huge respect mate, keep fighting 🙂 x
Therefore joined this site to meet like minded people. However I am not strong enough to join any of the walks and feel about 5 miles slowly with the kids is enough. Hopefully in about 6 months I may well be able to start to join some of you. Therefore to meet some pals I have put my intentions to walk with my kids and hope to meet a couple of friends. I have no family or friends here cos in a new area. Therefore any helpful advice please. Tomorrow I will regret divulging my situation but must stress am not looking for sympathy just advice. Shit happens but I am a fighter. Love to you all Syd. And yes I do know it is not wise to write personal things on here but I just had a mad half hour
Well here goes. In April 2012 out of the blue was diagnosed with stage4 neck cancer and given 6 months to live. Took advanced to operate sofull on chemo and heavy duty chemo. In September 2012 I was like a burnt skeleton in agony having to feed myself through a tube in my stomach. At this moment my wife of 10 years told me the cancer has made you ugly and I am ashamed to be with you and I have found a boyfriend. She left me dying taking care of her 3 year old son. She is the other side of the world now with another man. I decided to fight and started to read walking books to encourage me. Anyway much to the amazement of the docs I am still here. Part2 next
Ok mate I understand and must admit that I never considered that there could be the possibility of a peado joining me and the kids for a walk so thanks for making me aware of this possibility. I am on this site to have fun and find friendship~I even started the joke thread. Anyway in my next message will explain my situation and hopefully get some advice. I cannot contact organiser of walks which you will understand when you read the following message. Not looking for sympathy but helpful advice. Syd
Well said Johnny
Outdoor man: Hi Syd, I understand where youre coming from, but tinterweb is full of the wrong people who would gladly join you and your kids on an adventure under the guise of "outdoor activity seekers".
I personally would email the activity organiser to find out if my kids would be welcome and safe on the said activity. therefore posting publicly walks with kids is a no-no to me
regards
Johnny
Sorry mate. Wasn't sure what was going on and maybe just putting an invitation up for walkers to join me and my kids in the Brecon Beacons next month made me a bit paranoid. I haven't joined any walks yet and there is a valid reason which I may ex
Lain later I Sorry I didn't get the joke but thanks for the explanation and good luck for the future. Love and peace Syd
Outdoor man: if you knew me personally you would know that ive put this on for the comedy effect,I think this is being taken too seriously by a lot of members, im only on this site to enjoy myself as im sure everyone else is, if anyone takes it to heart well that's their doing.
I haven't the inclination or the power to "exclude" anyone. I have 2 young kids and if they put anyone off me I wouldn't want to date them anyway
Johnny not quite sure what this is all about so could you please clarify. As a single dad with a couple of kids at the weekends I need to get the kids out and it would be great to find walking buddies to join us. As an adult it would be fantastic to meet a female to be my soul mate but no luck so far. Maybe the kids put the girls off. Anyway mate would be grateful if you could let me know whether you would like to include or exlude me from this site. Take care Syd
