I've just looked up images of the red soldier beetle and yes that's what it is! Thanks Colin 🙂

I do on my other laptop but I can't access it at the moment. It did have a black bit but I didn't think it was the end of the wing - more it's bum but They really weren't bothered by me taking lots of photos they were just happily getting on with it!!! 😮😮😈😈

My contacts say do you have any other photos of the same insect, which would help in identification. They could also be the Red Soldier Beetle (Cantharidae) or Rhagonycha Fulva, which is also known as the "bonking beetles" because they always seem to be at it! (it does say that, honest). The soldier beetle has a black end to the elytra (end of wings I think) and would distinguish it from the others.

Pyrochroa Serraticornis.
and I checked the spelling of that twice!
