Mr and Mrs Ptarmigan

These are beautiful birds. They live high up on the Scottish mountains and change their plumage with the seasons - so as not to become an eagle snack! Very unfazed by humans. Usually heard before seen - a strange clicking sound.

I saw a mother and two chicks of Stob Gobhar once, at 3000 feet as you say. But the time I got the camera out, the chicks had hidden themselves under rocks. I suspect the move was on a signal or call from the mother.

It's summer which they can't survive, TMiW! You normally only see them 3000 feet up in Scotland. I have never had such a good view as this one though.
