Hi Sunny Speyside, I know, but it was the fact that the day before had been really mild and when I turned in for the night it was a really pleasant evening.
Mind you, though I wasn't with him one of my friends had to turn back from a planned long walk in the Cairngorms in July, the reason for turning back was a blizzard!!!
Aye, the Cairngorms have their own climate!!

JohnH: At 1000m up in Cairngorms you would have been lucky not to get snow in April!

Aye, winter comes early and stays late in the Cairngorms.

I once camped at the south side of the Lochan in late April and woke up to a covering of snow.

Helvellyn40: Aye it is a remote Lochan but well worth the effort to get there or even just view it from the craggs above.

Always wanted to visit Loch Etchachan, maybe one day.
Nice to see a dusting of snow on the hills.
