Sad stile near Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland
Didn't find one intact stile on that walk last week. Most didn't look totally rotten, so I guess that cattle damage is the reason. Probably not enough walkers to prompt the council to keep the paths maintained - a pity, it's a nice area for walking.

The Hotel is about a mile up the main road. The Knowesgate. We stayed at it one night whenon St Oswalds Way. Sheets were damp and for dinner you ordered from a Chinese take away. Claims 3 star, wouldn't give it one.
Didn't even notice that there was a hotel there!
Good selection of circuit walks from the village though.
We were camping at Bellingham (Desmesne Farm, recommended).
Kirkwhelpington, home of the worst hotel in the North of England.
