I remember crying having watched it at the cinema with my Dad when I was very young....
The spade in the ditch?

M1960: Well done Mark. The islands are at Sandaig which Gavin Maxwell called Camusfearna in the book.

Is it 'Ring of Bright Water'?

TrotOn: Well done David! Do you happen to know the book I referred to in my clue?

John, thanks for letting me know I was on this walk. Great day, so frightened on the final gradient, I kept behind Tina's boots!
It was nice in the cold rain, wandering around Beinn Sgritheall, trying to find the 3 true tops without being able to see.
So this is the descent view of Loch an Lochain and Beinn Mhialairgh, before the long descent to the road and walk back to the car.
Great day with OD friends.

Helvellyn40: I realised that this was a tough one, Paul. There is a clue in the form of the small islands on the right hand side. They are significant in a very popular book published in 1960.

not ringing any bells with me, but that could be Loch Linnhe.
