Quern stone quarry. Gigha.
This quern stone quarry is just a couple of metres from open sea. In distant years craftsmen would chip round and deep into the rock with primitive tools. The stones, about 20" across would then be split from the rock face. After much work, not all came away as intended. I suppose we are lucky really! We can get our porridge ready ground at the shop. There is another quarry nearby which I discovered on a map but found it to be completely overgrown now.
