Dodd Fell.
This will be a walk of around eleven miles with about 500 Metres of elevation. The outward walk will be a steady fairly continues climb on paths and lanes with the last half mile being a little steeper over some rougher ground up to the trig point. The return of course is all downhill. Please check the map details to confirm you are in your comfort zone doing this walk. Full outdoor clothing required, this walk can be exposed depending on the weather.
I hope that has not put too many off, if the weather is clear the views over the three peaks are impressive.

A lovely walk with great views
gogoing4goldSorry unable to make this walk, visiting my mum that weekend.
Some great views up there, back in May i walked on the Pennine way from Hawes, but didn't visit the summit of Dod Fell, it was one of those rare hot summers day with no wind, hope you have a good walk.
I've booked into the CAMC site in Hawes from the Friday to the Monday. It's a walk that I haven't done before so I'm looking forward to it, cheers, John.
JohnH:
Hi
I am booked on the same site but have just booked Friday and Saturday. You may have used the site before, its very close to the walk start point and for the town. Fingers crossed for some decent weather and some clear views.
Thanks Peter, however I've used the site quite a few times before so I know my way about.
If the weather's looking good I intend to book in just after 1pm so if you're around perhps we could have a walk on the Friday afternoon, cheers, John.
I’m out at the theatre with my daughters on Friday night but am thinking I might camp on Saturday night , and perhaps bring a bike to play out on Sunday morning ?
gogoing4goldJohnH:
on 20/07/24 @ 10:04May not be up there for 1pm but hopefully between 2 and 3pm.
going4gold:
May have to bring my electric bike purchase forward.
Going4gold: I'll bring my bike so Sunday morning sounds good.
on 20/07/24 @ 11:03Re Saturday night, I'll have my awning with me and you're welcome to stay in it on Saturday night, it's totally private from my van, quite a few OD members have used it before and found it to be really good. And if need be I can bring a good camp bed so all that you'd need would be a sleeping bag and pillow, let me know, cheers, John.
Going4gold: ps or any other night !!!
on 20/07/24 @ 11:03PeterBarker4472: That's OK, I'll be in no hurry to get out on Friday afternoon as it looks like being a pretty busy weekend, there's a nice circular walk that we could do from the camp site that takes about an hour or so, so we could do that late afternoon once you're set up. Cheers, John.
on 20/07/24 @ 11:18Going4Gold and PeterBarker4472:
on 20/07/24 @ 11:20what about eating on Saturday evening? Are you planning to eat out? or whatever?
If you could let me know so that I'll know what to bring with me, cheers, John.
ps re eating out, the CAMC site is full, so taking that as an indicator, Hawes is going to be busy, so if we want to eat out then perhaps we'd need to book ahead, cheers, John.
JohnH: Hi.
on 20/07/24 @ 19:14Yes that sounds good.
JohnH: Hi
Maybe leave the decision to Tuesday, if the weather forecast is good a BBQ may be best option, if not could try to book. Not as much option as you would think in Hawes.
peterbarker4472: Hi, yes I've had that problem before getting a place to eat in Hawes, for such a busy we town there's not a lot of options.
Also, my awning is about 3m by 2.5m so plenty of room to cook on stoves and eat in it, I keep a couple of gas stoves in my van and I've cooked in the awning before.
Anyhoo, I agree, let's see what the forecast is like nearer the time.
Hi John
on 21/07/24 @ 8:10Thx for the awning camp offer which I’ll accept. It will certainly be convenient to be on site and not to have to decamp to the YHA to set up a tent etc after the walk.
Peter
gogoing4goldIf you let me know your decision re weather and catering post Tuesday I’ll order some meat from my awarding winning local butcher . I have a plug in fridge for my car to transport and if others in the group are happy to bring along salad etc , we should be set
Hi Mary,
on 21/07/24 @ 8:43No problem, I'll have my awning set up on the Friday and since I've EHU on my pitch I will run power out to the awning and then when you arrive on the Saturday you can plug your fridge in, so bring your mains 240v connector for it.
going4gold: I can also bring a good camp bed then you'd only neesd sleeping bag etc let me know if you want me to bring it, cheers, John.
going4gold:
Hi
Will make decision Tuesday morning, looking reasonable at the moment, I am leaning to BBQ if possible. Will also contact Lez and see if he is attending and if so if he is eating as well. Fingers crossed.
Hi All, re a BBQ as well as my tent awning I have a sail awning and I can put up both. It's safe to BBQ under the sail awning so unless the weather is really pretty bad we could BBQ, cheers, John.
John
on 23/07/24 @ 7:38All good re awning . I’ll bring sleeping bag, pillow and fridge
Let- are you staying for food ? Just working out if I’m catering for 3 or 4 when ordering the meet.
I’ll get a pack of bacon for breakfast baps too if that is ok ?
LezW: stopping for BBQ or heading off straight after the walk Lez ?
gogoing4goldgoing4gold: that's great, I'll pack the camp bed and for the awning, there's all mod-cons, a table, chairs, 240v supply, 5v USB charging points, lights and even a carpet!!
For the BBQ, there should be some strawberries ready from my garden patch, if so I'll bring ice cream to go with them 😋
Hi
The Met Office says 10% chance of rain Sat evening, better than the rest of the day. So BBQ it is.
LezW: thanks for confirming
on 23/07/24 @ 19:57JohnH: great
gogoing4goldThat's me got plenty of strawberries picked and the ice cream is in my van freezer 😋
Hi Peter - I'll probably join you for this. If I do, I'll be driving over on the morning from near Keswick and will be heading back afterwards so won't stay for the BBQ. I'll update tomorrow evening, but under any circumstances please don't wait if I'm not at the start on time.
on 25/07/24 @ 22:53I have walked with Mary and John before (I don't know whether they will give me a positive reference!)
M1M1960M1960: no reference from me 😨 just joking, I hope that you can make it and it would be good to meet up again on Saturday, the weather forecast isn't too bad but it looks like being showery, cheers, John.
M1960: Hi.
Sounds good to me, should make a good sized group. Looking forward to meeting you.
I've changed my status to 'definitely'. If I have any difficulty getting there I'll try to let you know, but, as above, please don't wait if I'm not at the start on time. I look forward to seeing you all. 😀
on 26/07/24 @ 20:59Just to let you know that I'm in Hawes. See you later, Mark.
on 27/07/24 @ 9:14Many thanks to Peter for leading the walk today, and to everyone for your company. 🙂
M1M1960M1960: Hi
Thanks for making the effort and travelling, nice group nice day and weather came fairly good in the end.
Hi Peter, and thanks from me too, we had a great walk and our BBQ went well.
And thanks to all for their sympathetic help and support when my laft leg was playing up.
Thanks again to all, take care, John
