Paddleboarding in suffolk
by darrenAHello everyone, hope your all well.
I love paddleboarding, usually go on tge chelmer or orwell, but I am thinking of trying out the River Stour in Suffolk. Are there anyone on here that know this river and have any suggestions. Many thanks.

Hi Darren
ChChris50 on 31/08/21 @ 17:23I go kayaking on the Stour nearly every week at the moment. It’s a lovely river and is so variable. One moment it’s very broad and the next minute, you're hemmed in by rushes on both sides and shooting along, if you’re going downstream! We tend to go during the week when it’s not so crowded. The access at Stratford St Mary is easy, with parking on the street and from there you can go downstream to Dedham and then Flatford for tea & cake! I’m off kayaking there tomorrow but I’m not sure which stretch of the river we’ll be doing. Hope you have a good time, Chris
Thanks Chris.
dAdarrenA on 12/09/21 @ 22:28I ended up going to Cattawade, paddled to Flatford. It was a bit awkward in places, magical in some others. May well try Stratford one day. The Chelmer is most local to me but I like to try new spots from time to time. May see you there one day.
For future reference you can find information on rivers at the UK Rivers Guide Book here:

Great if you're visiting a new area. Look for the "Touring" rivers graded at 1 (flat). The guide gives loads of advice on put ins, take outs, parking and even transport in some cases. Its focused towards canoeists so avoid the "Play spots" and severe white water sections.
The photos below the description (separate link) can give you a flavour of the river too. 🙂
