I have been thinking about this and have a list of possible winter hikes, again based on using buses from Keswick. It's a good base in winter as there is plenty going on here to occupy long dark evenings. Loads of walks from Keswick itself and the buses are great to enable linear hikes and avoid parking problems. I'm available from Friday 10th January weekend and some of the following week. Happy to plan and lead some of the walks, and suggest evening activities!! Need various options according to weather.

Wild Adventuress: Hi Penny, that sounds great, I'll be available from the 10th as well till the end of the month. I'll look forward to any walks that you plan and as you rightly say, Keswick is a good base with lots of options

Could make some of these. Is the Forest of Bowland an option for low level stuff given daylight hours and weather or too far to go?

sparky   on 08/12/24 @ 17:48

sparky: Forest of Bowland could certainly be an option for me

JohnH   on 08/12/24 @ 20:50

sparky: I'd happily travel over there for a lower level walk in the winter!

Hi I'd be interested in joining some walks I'm planning to have a week in the Lake District in January staying at Keswick YHA.

This sounds great I was planning a week in Keswick in January staying at the YHA I'd love to join some walks and other activities.

Just realised this is last year 😆

I'm likely to be around in January 2026. Live a mile from Keswick so can join walks or suggest some?!
We did several walks in Jan 2025 including in snow, mainly Borrowdale but also using buses to Grasmere/ambleside

Wild Adventuress   on 02/06/25 @ 18:38

I'd love some company walking, let me know which weeks you are available and I'll book the YHA accordingly.Wild Adventuress: thank you.

Rachel Danetree   on 03/06/25 @ 6:40

This forum was meant for January 2025 but since there's interest for January 2026 we can let it run and start to make specific plans nearer the time

JohnH   on 03/06/25 @ 7:45

Thanks John I'm planning a week in Keswick in January anyway so I'd be very interested in joining some group walks I get a bit bored walking on my own sometimes. Let me know closer to the time I'm flexible with dates as long as I can get in at the YHA I'll probably do Friday to Friday.

Rachel Danetree   on 03/06/25 @ 16:56

Rachel Danetree: that's good and we can keep in touch, especially nearer the time

JohnH   on 03/06/25 @ 17:25

I've just booked Keswick YHA for 19th to 29th February if any fancies some company on a walk I'll be using public transport. I'd say 8 miles is about my limit in the hills atm up to 10 if its less rugid

Rachel Danetree   on 20/07/25 @ 10:19

Rachel Danetree: I should be around then but will know for sure nearer the time!!

Wild Adventuress   on 22/07/25 @ 23:49

Rachel Danetree: this is my kind of thing and loved the snow Wild Adventuress laid on for us in January this year (2025). I'll know nearer the time. Buses in and out of Keswick so good too.

Chris Muris   on 27/07/25 @ 10:06

thank you be lovely to meet you speak again closer to the time

Rachel Danetree   on 28/07/25 @ 19:52

Rachel Danetree: Wild Adventuress composes walks in that area as fluently and spontaneously as we speak our mother tongue or as an improvising musician plays, and makes great walking cake too.
