Every one to there own, if the chemistry feels right then why not, but if a person prefers to wait i can see there point as well.

The girl I mentioned would always insist on the guy going back to her place, rather than to his, for the first time. Sounds very sensible to me as you don't know him.

I agree with Will. I am not talking about one night stands! If you meet someone, like them have the chemistry and are planning on seing them again well why not! I personally think sex is important in a relationship and if the chemistry and spark isnt there at least you know early on. Dates were generally people she met on a dating site, so not a string of one night stands at all, they just didn't last beyond a few months.

I personally wouldnt go in for a string of one night stands, but sex on the first date, well we are all adults and if it feels right whats the problem

I knew a girl who would always end up having sex within 5 days of the first date, and she was concerned men would think her to be 'easy'. But other than that, she was fine with it. I think as long as you are careful (i.e. use condoms) it is fine. Personally I don't feel that one-night stands are such a great idea, but if instead you're expecting to go out with the person for weeks or months or more, then having sex early on is a good idea. Why? Because if sex doesn't work then the relationship won't work. So it's good to get the sex question answered early on. and furthermore, you never know what wonderful techniques you might learn from a partner! <img src='theme/emoticon_smile.png' />
