Camino de Santiago or Via Francigena

We were going to walk the last 300km from Leon to Santiago in September. Having watched a couple of episodes of the latest pilgrimage programme we are now considering the Via Francigena from Siena to Rome. I know that a lot of you have experience of the Camino but, has anyone walked the Via Francigna? Our main concern is that the Camino might be too busy, especially the last 100km.
We would be interested in your views on this.

Hi JW, I saw last nights episode and thought, oooh, I fancy that but sorry I know nothing more about it. I walked from Burgos to Finnisterre last September and loved it. I started walking about 7am in the dark because it got hot at 11.30 am and because I liked the solitude. I walked many miles for most days without seeing anybody apart from Sarria to Santiago. The numbers increase and the busagrinos arrive. They were however only mildly irritating as I could always walk faster, slower, stop for a bit, keep going to the next place etc. They didn’t spoil the enjoyment or experience for me.I recommend Santiago to Finnisterre. Fewer pilgrims and you get to the beaches at the end

The real busy part is from Sarria to Santiago but even at its busiest it is not really that crowded. Try the three Peaks on a summer weekend if you want to see crowds. Start early in the morning if you want to avoid the crowds.
