Isle of Wight (capturing a heart's delight...)

almost magically,
the sun surrenders briefly
to the murky mist, marauding
as shadows of shipwrecks and smugglers linger
around the higher hills,
but now it's flickering its rays once more,
unflinchingly bright upon the ruffled waters
which swirl nonchalantly onto the shingle,
teasingly lapping the shore,
rolling onto the sand
and those bricketty breakwaters,
crashing onto the rocks,
the Needles, sublime sentries to the soaring cliff-faces,
as pebbled patterns on the drying beach
