Hi openwater babe: sort off it's a very ancient tradition.when the romans moseyed over here.they gave the local native olives to acquire cider.then some bright druid thought of a brilliant idea.get a very large bowl.fill it with cider.and put some olives in the bowl.the first one to retrieve all olives from the bowl.legend says it was a way to keep the peace.good way to get absolutely pie eyed and legless.😋😋😋

Hi Lookingforseaturtles: the mendip bash will be any part of august.we will avoid the festival.so we will not see your attire for me misspent youth.😋😋😋but this is campsite is pretty laid back place anyway.a few pints of somerset cider in us.anything is possible.maybe the ladies can do the wellington boot routine😋😋😋

hi those were not into camping there was a good youth hostel association in cheddar.only a 10 minute walk away from the campsite and bed and breakfast accommodation.😈😀😀

all it costs is 9.90 a tonight.dogs are welcome cost couple of quid extra.so this is a campsite we are going to use.it has shower blocks and toilets.this is a very laid back campsite.all we need to do now is sort data out in july.and we are rockin and rollin.😈😀😀

i have contacted yha cheddar.they said we are very busy in july.and it would not be sole occupancy.it would be first come first serve basis there. to save disappointment.i thought camping might be a better option.what is your thinking on this guys😀😀😀

Re Minty's King Alfred walk, I can vouch for the lovely time we had last year. Had fab time, yummy scones at the end, and Minty was even our tourist guide in Glastonbury on the Sunday!

Hi Seaturtles,i stayed overnight from Clovelley and found to be a volunteer run Bunkhouse.YHA classification as it is self catering and was ideal for me.
Is it worth considering walking from Westwood Ho Hostel to Bude?🙂

minty : ref. pooling resources Lookingforseaturtles (Andy) has posted a weekend on Exmoor starting Friday 21st April that quite a few writing on this post have put themselves down as maybes. If we all change to definates we have a party!!
There are many options for walks and also the option of booking transport, see ( Moor Rover Exmoor) to enable us to possibly do a linear walk back to base camp. As this is quite early in the year there will be time to organise a second South West weekend later.

Residing in the Midlands, we have to travel in order to enjoy more 'interesting' landscape.
Happy to travel, however, the balance which has to be struck results in having to join activity closer to home most often.
However, come the longer days and term-break (without charge) such as myself will be happy to get to places further away, to hostel or camp - indeed, what-ever.

So minty, landranger68, Goodlife , Peppersmun et-al, please - keep posting as we are watching, wanting & planning.

Perhaps we'd benefit from development of an App (and a heart icon)!? 😀

I know what you mean Goodlife, I think there are many people on the site generally who are not active on the invites and forum - if I search in West Yorkshire there are loads of peeps but I've only ever met one or two of them! 🤔🙂

Minty - definitely put a weekend on mate, would love to see that area again - my dad's family come from Bristol but I haven't played out down there for years. You don't have to worry about block-booking accommodation if numbers are uncertain - as long as there is a hostel/campsite/B&B's around just put the walks on and let people sort their own accommodation out. Go on, you know you want to!! 🙂🙂

Goodlife I have looked longingly at your day walks, the photos are gorgeous - would love to do some walking down there, but it's really too far for anything less than a long weekend. am nurturing an ambition to do the whole South West Coast Path (over several years!)

Hi Lanky: i quite agree what you just said.the most important thing which always on my mind is doing walks how to cater for all abilities.which is not easy thing to do.considering they travel an awful long way to get here.there are two possibilities i have in mind.one is the mendips and cheddar gorge area.and the other is minehead on the edge of exmoor.both are very hilly terrain.travelling to these places is most important.cheddar is easiest just off the m5.where minehead is somewhat further.all depends on the response from people.on their preferences and their ideas.each location has it unique attractions.and the most important thing of all have good walking🙂🙂

Hi Lanky: yes we have the same problem it is difficult.the lake district the peak district and snowdonia are actually outstanding.i love going there myself.in the past i put on day walks. And other people have put on weekends here in the west country but they are very few and far between.those who come here those who come to the west country has a thoroughly enjoyed themselves.if there's a decent response i just might put a weekend on here.thank you for your response.🙂🙂🙂

2 minehead yha situated can walk to coast from here about 15 miles in total there and back miles in total there.train is very hilly. Local pub down the track all of these yha it will be self catering.it'll be nice for your feedback thank you😀😀😀
