Had a little chinwag with Minty and.........
the South Downs way was discussed. Just an idea at the moment, but thought would see if any interest. Winchester to Eastbourne, 9 days walking staying in b&b and youth hostels. 9,12,13,8,13,16,17,8,12 mile days this allows for detours for accommodation. Estimate accommodation costs ยฃ300, will need to look into baggage transfer cost. July next year would be my choice.

Just seen this and am very interested being fresh from a bit of canoeing ๐๐
Have posted an invitation for the whole length and for 3 days๐
I am so up for this too John. Been on my list for years! Done bits and pieces of course but the whole thing in one go would be fab! So long as the dates are in the school holidays so I can ship my son to his Dad's I'm easy!
I'm also very interested JW. I've walked a lot of it in stages but not all of it.๐
Me too ๐. July dates are flexible for me so anytime.
Ok Sandy, will look into costs.
Hi Tinks, sure that old Tree would love to see you again๐
No probs Clive, make sure you bring your shades and sun cream.
26th great for me JW, (sorry to sound selfish earlier in thread re date) i'll have had a week off prior to this so should be mentally prepared for my first south coast bash and had lots of sleep to compensate for snorers ๐ ๐
26th July is good for me. My vote is to go for the baggage transfer - by day 3 we'll be glad we did!
Hi John I may be up for doing some of this if not all ๐
Will be putting up an option for the last 3 or 2 days which will allow a train option back to the cars.
I hope you mean of sorts because me in shorts is more a clash with the devil!!! ๐๐๐๐
No amount of training could get me ready for this but who knows I may be tempted to join you for a few days! :~๐ฎ๐๐
Mendips can be our warm-up weekend ๐
I'm gonna do some serious training for this one ๐๐
My fault Claudette, should have checked first especially as this was Minty's idea in the first place. This means you could join us now๐
Oh no hope I'm not causing a problem! :~
No camping gear required Sarah, all the accommodation will be b&b or YH.
26th should suit LR better.
Ally, would be lovely to see you down south again๐
Same as you Liz, think I have just about covered all of the South Downs, but this something I have been meening to do foe ages.
ok, lets look at the 26th then. Plenty of time to sort it out. If this date suits everyone who has shown an interest so far then will post more details shortly regarding accommodation, walk lengths and costs.
Same as Sarah I will be happy to carry my own gear so unless asked otherwise I won't look into baggage transfer.
26th july good for me john ๐
Another option for me is the week starting sat 21st June, but as Rourky showed an interest early on this is only an option if he can make this date or decides not to come. Any thoughts??
Yes please- very interested. Know the whole route very well but never walked it end to end or from Winchester to Eastbourne!๐
Whoops, don't want to clash with TMiW.
Could do the week later 26th July, I can't do August and if we go earlier that wouldn't fit in with Rourky. How does that sound?
Ooh. Just to clarify. Happy to carry MY gear. Not everybody's. ๐๐
Hi johnwalking, have had a little browse of the national trail website and I am definitely interested in this - but are your proposed dates flexible? At the moment it's clashing with TMIW's Malverns weekend which I also really fancy. Please don't make me choose between you......๐๐
Don't know if I could run to baggage transfer costs but happy to carry gear as long as we don't need camping stuff ๐๐
Sorry to disappoint Minty, wasn't foreplay, was trying to stop your bloody snoring...
Got them cheap off a chap I know,๐ ๐ ๐
Am thinking the same Mints
Sounds really good. Was talking about doing a long distance walk next year
๐๐๐
Ah that explains why the dreadful noise on Hadrians wall, we had the pleasure of them both sharing one tent ๐ ๐ ๐
Oh Morningdawn scarily i know all too well about our young Minty and his snoring. I first met him last Feb at my Beacons Bash and had the pleasure of sharing a room with the little darling. However in his defence there are worse on site, isnt that right Davem. ๐
Sounds good, may be interested in this this ๐
Its not Minty's talking you should be worried about Rourky, its his snoring. Remember you have been WARNED ๐ ๐
No there isn't Clive๐
Thinking of Sat 19th-Sun 27th July.
Same as you Sandy, have been thinking of doing this for some time.
Hi Jubleeanne, can't help with the Welsh3000, but hope you can make it.
Sarah, it's a lovely part of the country, well worth the journey.
WLM, that would be great, sure there will be others who would also join in for the odd days.
The main challange will be sorting out the accommodation, seeing as some good interest will put more detailed information up shortly.
A little chin wag with Minty, is there such a thing JW? (sorry Minty). Id be up for all / part of this depending on dates as possibly still at school, being selfish any time after 18th July is good for me.
Will certainly join you some parts of SD, cannot do all with other commitments. The end of July is better. Thank you for organising this! ๐๐
Tentatively interested, I don't know the area at all so i'm going to have a look on t'interweb. ๐
Wow, that sounds great. Me and my friends have been talking about doing this for a few years now but have never got around to organising it. I would definitely be interested.๐
