does anyone like foraging as well as walking ?

A little while ago a pheasant flew into my windscreen. I stopped and walked back, the bird was dead. So I picked it up and was about to put it into the boot when a police car pulled up alongside. I explained the circumstances and asked the p.c. what is the law regarding this? He replied I am not too sure sir, but I tell you what, I'll have this one you have the next one!

its abit cold now not much worth foraging this time of year but as soon as it warms up ill be out there got my eye on lots of things for this year ,a hell of alot more than last year ,lots more recipes ,lots of nice trees im eyeing up ,,just wait till that fruit arrives ..

Picked some wild mushrooms in Brecon Beacons.Took back to hostel warden said ok,so we had fried mushrooms very tasty.

Sarah. Road kill is fine, legally you should only pick up what someone else has killed first but at least if YOU hit it you know it's fresh 🙂 I'm happy for anyone to open my post, as long as they pay the bills 🙂

Blue John I saw that program too, it made me chuckle. I wish I'd gone back for that pheasanty thing I nearly hit at the weekend now, or doesn't roadkill count as foraging? 😀😀

I just heard on tv that all mushrooms are edible.....some you will only eat once :~:~

Fully agree Minty. Six of us suffered severe food poisoning after eating mussels that were collected from gin clear water in the afternoon and cooked twice the very same evening. Eaten immediatly and thoroughly enjoyed with a good Chablis. Aparently there had recently been algae bloom in the water. The worst thing was the fact that I cooked them! Beware of natures' harvest!

Sloes for gin, and blackberries are great. I enjoyed walking in Kent last year - lots of orchards for scrumping. And freshly picked runner beans are delicious. Erm, does that count as foraging?? :~

hi there wild garlic is good you can use all of the plant indeed but did you know it is illegal to dig it up ???

hi there all well i went on my foraging walk today there were quiet a few turned up even in the rain had a great times lots of things to find is this season .the ranger was very good even gave us all little samples to try mmm free wine always goes down well ,was also given a free little booklet,with a few recipes in ,i had to go off picking my next meal ,came home and cooked wild garlic and stinging nettle soup and belive me it was very nice indeed ,where ever you are in the uk ,get on your local councils website the rangers.there will be times and dates on there for the next one in your area ,

Like many others of you, I've made sloe gin and also enjoyed foraging for mushrooms on a uni field trip some years ago. I'd love to learn more about wild eating 😀

Done lots of slow gin , been on mushroom walks , and done mussels and cockles from the beach , but would love to learn more . 🙂

I remember finding some wild raspberries by the side of Carsington Water just as we were getting peckish 🙂

Filled a few tubs of wild blackberries on the Isle of Mull and at the Oban campsite one year as there was a good crop just before I had to go back home and made a delicious blackberry crumble out of them🙂 mmmm.. can't beat wild blackberries🙂

Love foraging.....in fact I can't pass a skip without a quick rummage.....

I had a nice bit of road kill the other day,think it was a bit of muntjac.It was ok on the bbq...

hi there im off on a walk tomorrow with a local ranger in nottingham ill see how it goes and let you know when there are more got to try and get a list of when and where they are ,

i might be interested, not done much mainly the sloe gin, berry's, a friend did a course a few years ago some where just up the A1 from me

I'd love to know more about foraging & natural foods so if you find a reasonably priced course I would love to know about it. Nottingham is fairly local to me too 🙂

there are some great foraging courses out there but some very expensive just found some great free ones that im looking into tho ,mainly with local park rangers ,great at xmas making xmas wreaths for family and friends all that holly and the rest free mistletoe if you know where to look

ive got lots of sloe gin on the elderberry liqueur plum and blackberry vodka and blackberry whisky.alas the booze isnt free but the other is ,making elder flower cordial again this year and elderflower fritas ..lots of wild garlic about ,,chestnuts are great for cakes and biscuits to

I'm the same as MM, have found a few wild raspberries & strawberries too, even with a good book I'm a bit dubious about fungi cos they never seem to match any of the pictures :~ Have tried samphire but its not particularly tasty either :~

Done the usual blackberries, elderberries, elderflowers,damsons, and sloes for wine, and field mushrooms of course. With fungi you do need to have a good book I think. In Pembroke was walking along roads choc a bloc with wild garlic or ramsones I think they're called.
