So, why is the McDonald's newish DOUBLE QUATER POUNDER WITH CHEESE. not just a HALF POUNDER ? I did get C.S.E. maths 1.

I can tell you why. A few years ago a rival of Mcdonalds made a 1/3 of a pound burger for the price of a quarter pounder. Guess what it didn't sell as well because many people thought 1/4 was bigger than 1/3. McDonalds didn't become a success by over estimating the intelligence of its customers.
