I just had an e-mail from the organiser of the www.walkandridefestival.co.uk with this idea/question:
"For 2012 we are looking at holding a dating walk and possibly a dating cycle ride, as commissioned events. As we have never held such events before I was wondering if I could tap into your expertise at Outdoor Duo about what participants’ expectations of such an event would be?"
I gues you are all better placed to answert his than me. Let me know, and then I'll email them back with your thoughts.
Steve

If its the same event as the advert I can't do it because it says 25 to 45 yr olds, and I'm definatly not competing with youngsters

I am sure people will go if they are free, as for mixing it will just happen as you walk along, the first one i went to on here i spoke to all 18 people, doing something afterwards might be a nice idea.....as long as we didn't want to put our running shoes on

We are natural minglers (please note the L) and isn't this site already doing that walking, cycling for people who are looking for a date or friendship.

I guess if its a long walk it may not be speed dating - unless you walk particularly fast. I also guess there would be a need to get people to mix somehow. Maybe a pre or post event activity, or games/challenges along the way to get people talking and interacting?

I think if people turn up to it with a relaxed attitude and just treat it like any other walk then I can't see anything wrong with it, and if it just so happens that you particularly get along with someone there, then you can be reasonably safe in the knowledge that there for the same reasons as you and that they're single (??!)

I've always thought speed dating (as that's what this sounds like but a walking or cycling version) was not a very good idea - too many expectations and a little like a cattle market - creating more pressure we really don't need. But that's just me.
