Favourite Walk
Just wondering what everyone's favourite walk is in the UK? Mine is from the Sligachan Hotel on Skye, walking through the valley between the Black and Red Cuilin to Loch Coruisk. Then catching the boat there to Elgol, the southern most point on Skye. Heaven! If you're lucky you'll see a pod of dolphins.
Which is your favourite walk? It's always good to share thoughts.

I think its the same for me Jopo, can not pronounce or remember for that fact where my favourite walk is, one was in the lake district, and one was in Wales, Glyder Fusch think

I don't know where I walk I just enjoy all of them. It took me months to realise Catbells wasn't Cowbells<img src='theme/emoticon_grin.png' /> but I do remember Fan y big <img src='theme/emoticon_grin.png' /> all the others are foreign to me and I can't pronounce them so I don't bother. <img src='theme/emoticon_confused.png' />
Ben Starav is a wonderful munro Rob, hidden away as it is. The glen is superb and is often overlooked by those just interested in doing the Glencoe hills. Can I ask how many munros you've done so far?
A favourite Munro or mine is Ben Starav, situated as it is at the head of Glen Etive. The views from the summit back up the glen to Buchaille Etive Mor are breathtaking,as are the views down Loch Etive towards Ben Cruachan. Glen Etive is a very special place and I never tire of returning there
I sincerely hope your next walk will be the best one so far TMiW, aided I'm sure by the company you're with. Will be good to hear about it.

Landranger, stayed in bothies for a week munro bagging around Knoydart.... brilliant!
TMiW not sure that 'yes' is actually a walk. Which is the one you've enjoyed most so far on your travels?
Milvus, I've just looked at the photos from the top of Red Pike, I agree the views look superb! All I've ever done in the lakes is Helvellyn and Scaefell Pike. I know there's so much more to enjoy there.
Landranger, well done on your epic journeys across Scotland. I'd love to do the Cape Wrath trail! I've done the West Highland Way, Great Glen Way and the Speyside Way.
FL you should try the Speyside Way, you'll get a free dram at all the distilleries every day of the walk almost!
Hi munroist2847,waling the Cape Wrath Trail was an amazing journey as was the Scottish C 2 C from Mallaig to Montrose.Many great Bothies,but a tight squeeze at Corrur Bothy in the Lairig Ghru

Dont get me wrong, the views are always spectacular,,I"ve used cader as my training venue, and hence, its why for me the walk is a bit boring.When the OD team do it on 9th Oct, then that"ll be different !!
I love to Cym to munro but there a time and place lol
Each to his own, I love the cwm with the mountain circling it.
By the way M , for me cader idris is a bit boring, personally, i prefer walking the rhinog ridge....on a local view
Sorry mate, its your thread.....every walk whether with OD or not is a favourite. To put my walking boots on etc etc and head off into the wilderness, away from the tourists, is for me heaven.....

I agree with you there, munro....knoydart is a beautiful place,even tho we only had two days...the memory will stay <img src='theme/emoticon_tongue.png' />
Knoydart is a fabulous place landranger, walking from bothy to bothy all week. Don't worry FL a shovel is provided, just inside the door! I've never done Sandwood Bay, although it's supposed to be the most beautiful remote spot in the whole of Scotland.
Too many to mention. Favourite place/area has to be Keswick for walking. i love it in Autumn on a crisp clear frosty day, absolute heaven!<img src='theme/emoticon_tongue.png' />
There are many areas that "hit that spot" depending on weather or state of mind.From the peaceful Shropshire Hills, awesome Carnac Valley in Knoydart,amazingly beautiful Sandwood Bay.However the Newlands Valley is probably my favourite area.Not a lake in sight,but such a majestic area crowned by Grizedale Pike with a blanket of snow.It is almost completly separate with the only link to high ground being Dale Head.Its boundaries are between the Rivers Derwent & Cocker,the Cocker is a tributary of the Derwent
And Vee, you can be a crew member on my yatch ,only trouble being, is that my yatch never leaves my bath......

I have to agree with you gpg last weekend when I went to Wales I'd had a big indian curry on the friday night and by the time I'd driven to Wales i was ready to part with it shame really as it had brought me so much fun with the strange noises and smells I'd made on the way there,well when I'd got the key to my room the loo was first on my list well there I sat and shat as you do ! when I thought better turn the extractor fan on which i did after a while I began to feel very hot and started to think wow that was a real bum burning curry then I realised i had turned a wall heater on and it was right above my head <img src='theme/emoticon_wink.png' /> obviously its right what people say i don't know my head from my arse<img src='theme/emoticon_wink.png' />lol

Some of us hardy OD members tried to do the Welsh 3000 in 12 hours, and for me that was bloody hard.I must admit.
What about the travelling between the peaks? Does that come into the equation?...If there"s heavy traffic, does that mean , you cant do it?....
Being a simpeton M ,what do the three peaks consist of ??
Well done Vee. I did the Ben as part of the three peaks challenge, so simply did the tourist path in the height of summer.... bitten to death by the midgies!

Even though,I live on the outskirts of Snowdonia ,and the scenery is good, I much prefer Scotland , especially the highlands, because they are so remote, yet beautiful.

I found the horns very hairy on my first visit in the wind & rain but the next time in still sunny weather it was hard to believe that it was the same mountain; so much depends on the conditions.
Walk with Ruth, and you dont need the scenery
Ruth, you and me too in loving the mountains. Though the lakes can be too busy at times for my liking.
Top spot, I presume you came off Beinn Alligin over the horns? I found that quite hairy (excuse the pun).

my favourite walks have to be in Scotland or Cumbria I love the mountains
Though I often walk alone,my fovourite walks I"ve been on are when I join the walks with the OD team.With the gang to share the scenery with, for me all walks have been fantastic
There are many personal reasons why a particular walk might be one's favourite but if we consider just the scenery I would choose the Beinn Alligin traverse for the mountain itself and the views of the other Torridon hills and the sea.
You're a real softie at heart, just like me FL. It doesn't matter where you walk in tgo, it just puts your whole life into perspective. The changing colours are amazing, you're right. Down here my local playground is Dartmoor and the colours of the heather seem to be different everytime I set foot on the moor.
I don't have a perticular favourite all the walks I've done are very special to me i walk the same walk at different times of the year and love it just as much as the first time,the different flowers eg the foxgloves,how high can they grow? the colours always bring a smile to my face and sometimes the views bring a tear to my eye in awe of something so beautiful,nature.
