Is it worth the effort??

by JW JW

My new Years resolution was to lose the extra pounds I seemed to have gained last year. Spurred on with some big walks coming up this year I have replaced snacking on Pasties and sausage rolls with Apples and Bananas, reduced my Guinness intake, have been going for regular runs and spent Mon & Tues walking on the South Downs. Yet I still weigh the same as I did at Christmas.
Sitting in the office debating if I should visit the Bakers next door. Any tips for loosing weight?

Honestly Jopo you're never still longer enough to retain water or any other calorie ladened thing!!

Ultreia (Jo & Alan) 25/03/2013 18:49

It's being in a relationship John. ๐Ÿ˜€
Have you been told that you could have water retention yet like I have ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜€

Little Miss Sunshine (Max) 23/03/2013 18:35

Little Miss Sunshine (Max) 22/03/2013 19:11

LMS is Yoga queen of the northwest lol!!!! A strong style of yoga will help you to balance your metabolism & keep you fit, healthly & flexible ๐Ÿ˜€ Been teaching it for 15 years now in addition to fitness etc...

Morningdawn 22/03/2013 17:11

She does if you visit Craggy Island, other than that you will have to wait for my lovely treats...
My lovely cakes I mean, ๐Ÿ˜€

BustaGut (Grant) 22/03/2013 11:51

Does Mrs Doyle have the treats?????๐Ÿ™‚

Morningdawn 22/03/2013 00:04

We all come in different shapes and sizes, its about how fit and active we are, not how much we weigh that counts. Often we are judged by how we look and not by who we are. Enjoy a treat now and then Johnwalking ๐Ÿ™‚
As Mrs Doyle would say ,go on go on go on go on ๐Ÿ™‚

JW 21/03/2013 20:47

Feel great Peppa......room for improvement though and can't understand why I havn't lost any weight despite cutting out a lot of junk food.

JW 21/03/2013 20:35

And you do bake a great cake CW.

Problem is Rourky I do like my food and Can't find enough time to balance it out with exercise.
However I am determined to reach 12 1/2 stone by South Downs weekend. Self controll requiredโ˜น

Rourky 21/03/2013 20:16

Hey John dont you go bothering with diets and all that faddy mubo jumbo nonsense, if you want a Mr Kippling loyalty card or one from Greggs for that matter, you go ahead and get one mate. Theres no magic, its perfectly simple as ive been teaching the kids today in a PE lesson, its energy balance, if calories going in exceed the calories burnt off (no matter what exercise type) then you put on weight, if reversed you lose weight, simple! Stay away from BMIs as well (sorry Cat)theyre not accurate as take no account of muscle mass. I could go on but only have 700 characters.

Diets, as Jim Royal from the Royal Family says, "my ar#e" you enjoy your food mate, but as Cat says, moderation

Rick and Viv's Adventures 21/03/2013 16:29

We all know whats the best way of burning off those calories and excess fat and thats doing a good walk every weekend preferably up some steep hills and mountains as this gives the body more than a good work out and you can eat your cake too.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€ Just stay of the fatty stuff.๐Ÿ™‚

jw19 21/03/2013 16:16

As suggested above JW you could be losing weight but putting muscle on, try to do more aerobic exercise and sweat the weight off (indoor trainer with bin liner on and fire on full works!) and count calories in and out, good luck. ๐Ÿ˜€

JW 21/03/2013 15:59

Thats the problem Busta ๐Ÿ™‚

BustaGut (Grant) 21/03/2013 15:54

He He......mmmmmmm cake...๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

MadMag 21/03/2013 15:29

Bustagut, I was referring to volume really, the same weight of muscle is smaller than the lump of lard. You'll have to cut down on the walker's penchant for cakes!

JW 21/03/2013 14:56

Set myself a target to get down from 13 1/4 stone to 12 1/2 stone before the summer, looking at comments going to have to look closer at my diet..thought it was going to be easy.

Brecon Beauty 21/03/2013 14:36

Throw the scales away ! If you eat less (low Fat )you will lose inches but not necessary lose wieght. Excersise certainly helps but dont think it helps to lose wieght.โ˜น>:โ˜นโ˜น

JW 21/03/2013 14:26

Perhaps I should lay off the cake...big ask.

Ally & Dave 21/03/2013 13:47

Fast for 2 days (500 calories) but not 2 days together and eat healthy for 5. Or just Dont eat at all, that normally works x

The Mind is Willing 21/03/2013 13:38

people say eating no later than 7.30 pm gives your metabolism to digest food before it begins to slow down for the day. There is also the train of thought that says "little and often" - not big meals and also lean chicken and fish rather than red meat. Your stamina and general fitness John is not in question so I would suggest that you change your mid week form of exercise. Maybe Lesley Wills could offer better advise ๐Ÿ™‚

BustaGut (Grant) 21/03/2013 13:23

Not sure about on Anglesy Mag, but in most places a pound of muscle will weigh the same as a pound of fat!! It's hard work JW, I've been walking to work the last few weeks, only a couple of miles each way but it's just about starting to make a difference. I can now run up the very short flight of stairs at work without passing out at the top and I'm not having to strain quite as much to fasten my troosers in the morning. Just stick at it and go off how you feel rather than what you weigh.๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

MadMag 21/03/2013 12:53

Yep, muscle weighs more than fat!

JW 21/03/2013 12:21

Nice thought Tinks, just had a peak and waist line looks the same. Perhaps there is some toning up going on underneath.๐Ÿ™‚

Tinks 21/03/2013 11:57

Weighting the same is one thing but are you looking trimmer ( have you got a waist line now ) as you could be toning up but gaining muscle ๐Ÿ™‚
