Hadrian's Wall

Now that I have committed to this week I can't help poking my nose in! Sorry Minty 😮😋. We still need to find accommodation for Thursday 27th in Newcastle. Having done a bit of research it would appear that the two closest YHA's are 22 & 26 miles away from Wallsend so I suggest they are out as an option. If we book NOW, We could get premier inn twin rooms at a NON REFUNDABLE rate of about £20.00 per person. This is about 4 miles from Wallsend. As it's central drinks and food is in good supply. There is also a floating night club close by so "an end of walk party" could be interesting!! What do we all think?

Thank you 🙂🙂

The Mind is Willing 23/04/2013 12:24

Ok that's another three. I'll purchase them tonight and you can all pay me on the walk 🙂

Morningdawn 23/04/2013 06:48

Hi TMW can I have a passport too please,I'm doing my walk sponsored so would be a good idea to have some proof of completing the walk, Thank you 🙂

Blueray 23/04/2013 05:32

I will do.

Forgot to say, would you be able to get another 2 passport please if it's not to late?
Also, let me know how to get the payment to you.

The Mind is Willing 22/04/2013 20:57

Oh Blueray sorry you didn't see this earlier ☹ We'll just have to make the most of the walking week then won't we.🙂
There was talk of a meal on the Friday night we arrive as it's Minty's birthday but I guess it all depends on what time everyone will get there! Keep your eyes peeled on the forum for any updates and see what we come up with! 😀

Blueray 22/04/2013 18:15

Hi TMIW
How did I miss this thread?!?
You may have seen in another thread that my friend Tracy and I have already arranged transport via train. She's in Aberdeen, I'm in Berkshire and neither of us fancied driving.

She has also arranged for us to stay at a pub on the last night, recommended by Tracey the organiser ( sorry if I'm confusing you - too many Tracies!!). Not sure what the pub is called, but will find out and let you know. I quite like the idea of having a hearty meal, a few drinks and then crawling upstairs to bed 🙂

We both leave really early on the Friday morning - around 7am.

Shame I didn't see this post before. I will check properly in future.

I am devastated that I will have to be purchasing a new pair of boots, my trusty old Meindl's have given up the ghost after 6 years. Hope I can break the new ones in in time!

Pear Drop (Sarah) 22/04/2013 16:08

thank goodness for that, I thought you meant that i really do sound like a trainspotter 😀😀😀

The Mind is Willing 22/04/2013 15:16

My comment refers to your comment about Minty Sarah68 just in case it was confusing!😈😈😈

The Mind is Willing 22/04/2013 15:07

I am also purchasing wall passports for Minty Sarah68 Christine 9421 and myself. Anymore takers?
There are several points along the way where they can be stamped so it can be a record of proof that you walked it. They're £2 each plus postage

The Mind is Willing 22/04/2013 15:04

Dangerously true Sarah68!!! 😈😈😈

Pear Drop (Sarah) 22/04/2013 15:04

PS sorry to sound like a trainspotter, my ex worked for East Coast and then NorthernRail! Sadly the only thing I miss about the relationship is the staff discount card 😀😀😀

Pear Drop (Sarah) 22/04/2013 15:03

Hello, yes £4 is for advance purchase ticket and numbers will be limited so the longer we leave it the dearer it will be. Standard walk on fare is £15 so that's the maximum it would go up to. guess it's a case of weighing up cost versus flexibility. Although a few of us are in Minty's hands if we want a lift home! 🙂🙂

The Mind is Willing 22/04/2013 14:52

Regarding the day after the party!!!!!:~
We all need to get back to Carlisle so we can pick up our cars and continue our travel home. I have been looking at trains from Newcastle to Carlisle and if we get either the 10.22 am 11.22 am or 12.22 am a one way ticket is currently showing at £4 I'm not sure if this will change if you leave buying your ticket to the last minute. If we all agree on a time and I can purchase them together - or you can purchase your own. Whatever suits best 🙂

Hi Kids
Sorry there's more than one thread relating to Hadrian's Wall but I thought this had history worth reading. Between Minty & I (with our urges to be organised) I thought I had better re-iterate some information.
For the last night in Newcastle I have booked rooms for Walk 55, Elaine, Jeff, Chris 50, Dave, Minty, Sarah68 & myself. Christine9421 has booked rooms for Herself, LMS, MorningDawn & 1 other (since HMcB has pulled out).

Morningdawn 19/03/2013 15:58

Hi I'm now booked on walk, if any one that hasn't yet booked a room and would like to share for the last night, let me know 🙂
Very excited 🙂🙂

The Mind is Willing 19/03/2013 15:40

Rooms at Newcastle Quayside are currently showing at £50 (£25 each) but I just looked at the Millenium bridge and that is showing £39 (£19.50 each so last 3 girls and LMS get booking quickly!

The Mind is Willing 18/03/2013 20:29

Hey let's not freak out about the last night ladies whatever we do we should make sure we're comfortable I see sarah68 has a boob tube fetish, the boys will be doing the full minty and the rest of us will just chill out!!!! 😈😈:~😈

Pear Drop (Sarah) 17/03/2013 17:23

Been out this afternoon to buy boob tube and mini skirt only there was a sale on at the outdoor shop and i came home with a new waterproof and 2 pairs of bridgedale socks instead. Is there any hope? 😀

Pear Drop (Sarah) 16/03/2013 19:54

OK, if you're wearing jeans I will too. Phew 🙂🙂

Pear Drop (Sarah) 16/03/2013 18:53

Yaaaaay!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

At least a lycra mini skirt and boob tube won't take up much room in our rucksacks 😀😀😀😀😀

Pear Drop (Sarah) 16/03/2013 18:27

I don't know what everyone elses walking experience is like, and as a newbie I don't want to sound patronising - but I've done a few long distance walks, and before my first one (Great Glen Way), my husband (now ex!) said "You? You'd never manage that!" Well what more encouragement could a girl ask for? Of course I managed it, it was a heck of a challenge but I'm so glad I went for it. I'm just saying, if you think you can't do it, you're wrong - you can!!!! As Minty says it's not a race, It's just one day walk...then another...and another....you can do it 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

Pear Drop (Sarah) 16/03/2013 18:14

I'm thinking I'll definitely need to take something specially for the night club, in fact I'm seeing my doctor next week for a prescription :~:~:~:~

Scout 16/03/2013 17:52

Hope you all have a fab time. Can you do a daily blog

The Mind is Willing 14/03/2013 18:49

Hey we stick together whatever 🙂 I've sent you mail so bear it in mind

Little Miss Sunshine (Max) 14/03/2013 17:49

Sorry folks I have been sleeping all day 🙂 Not to worry about the room Claudetter I can sort summat out or just travel home on the day... What will be will be 🙂

The Mind is Willing 14/03/2013 16:47

I think you owe me several favours now Minty! Ooooh how should I collect them?!!! I'll save them for the walk as I may need carrying partway 😮😈😈😈😈

The Mind is Willing 13/03/2013 21:40

The low price is internet only and you can only book a maximum of 4 rooms at a time.
I have booked the quayside Chris50.
Looking on the premier inn site the city centre millenium bridge (which is about a mile away) is showing rooms at £39 so if you read this message in the next day LMS you might be able to get it by booking online. Good luck

Chris50 13/03/2013 21:24

Which premier inn are you booking in Newcastle, Claudette?

The Mind is Willing 13/03/2013 21:21

Little Miss Sunshine as I haven't heard from you, I haven't booked a room for you. The difficulty is that we are a group of 9 currently and if I book another room now it will cost you £68.

davem 13/03/2013 21:12

use another computer or your phone. some sites recognize the computer and then bump the price up.

A lot of the airlines do it.....If that doesn't work well split the cost between us is my thoughts

Tinks 13/03/2013 21:11

Try phoning them tell them you want the same price as you are a group 🙂

The Mind is Willing 13/03/2013 21:09

Disaster has struck. After 5 attemps to book four rooms I finally managed it but when I went back to book another room the rate had gone up to £34 per person!!! 😮😮😮☹ What shall I do now??????

davem 13/03/2013 20:34

We'll always "keep our hats on". lol

Chris50 13/03/2013 20:31

Very happy to go along with these plans; a good meal, booze, bop and comfortable bed seem to be a fitting way to celebrate.
I even remember doing a version of "SLSC" some 40 years ago, but it was probably very tame compared with the "rugby" version!
Do we use ladies hats In your version, Dave? 😀😀

The Mind is Willing 13/03/2013 20:16

cultural experience or culture shock!!! Hang on to your hats ladies!!!! 😈😈😈😈😈

davem 13/03/2013 19:10

Ha ha, I think that part is compulsory mate.

I once performed it at the Llangollen Eisteddfod Fringe festival with 25 other rugby players..... and we got a standing ovation.

So the ladies are in for a cultural experience !!

davem 13/03/2013 18:08

Careful, you'll scare the newbies !!!!!

You never know Minty, Chris and I might even do a version for you girls at the end of the walk. 😋

The Mind is Willing 13/03/2013 16:38

Mock ye not. Don't forget we've all seen your "swing low sweet chariot"!!!! 😋😈😈😈

davem 13/03/2013 16:34

Its a big yes from me.
I can just see Minty and Claudette doing the funky chicken in the floating night club.....

Pear Drop (Sarah) 13/03/2013 16:00

That sounds fab, a bit of luxury at the end 🙂 do we need to book as a group then, or what, we don't want to end up with a twin room each so we'll have to plan who is doing the deed....?
