I am not going to enquire as to how you know about that Phil! Nothing stops for winter around here. I tend to favour biking but hiking takes over when it is too wet or snowy for that

Varies a bit. I have paid £120 to £220. Last one was £575 for 2 days! but that included accomodation and all meals. Mind you, part of what I am paying for is the scrambling experience, and developing my skill [although I seem to be going backwards at the moment!]
It does get me onto mountain ridges I cannot do on my own. A nice young female guide as well, is a bonus.

I've been found out Steve! It's quite expensive, but how else can I spend the day with an attractive young woman 😋 [rhetorical question - don't answer that😉

hi trekkie, winter boots, crampons and ice axe ready and waiting for some fab winter walking!

Would love to get back into winter walking - have crampons - will travel! (On account of we get little snow and ice down here in Devon!)

On way back from Lakes on Monday, I popped into Go Outdoors in Penrith and treated myself to a pair of winter boots and crampons. Great deal on boots as they were in the sale and discount on crampons with the discount card (£5 online)
Definitely hoping for snow and some good winter walking. May need someone to lead though, as this is somewhat uncharted territory for me! Micro spikes also as yet unused but could have done with them coming down Dale Head. Not much use still in my wardrobe!😀

Last year I booked a "Welsh Winter Course" for climbing in snow, and there wasn't a flake! So I then booked a Scrambling Course and several feet of snow was on the mountains. It had it's benefits, I was taken up Tryfan North Ridge on snow and ice by two guides, one of whom was the gorgeous Georgina. I was then lowered down the West gully all on ropes, by my two guides.
I have crossed the Aonachs on my own in snow and ice, with ice axe and crampons. It was a fantastic day; the snow texture was just right, and the sun came out giving superb views. But had that not been so, I would have cancelled. I think in winter you have to have an alternative route ready incase of weather restrictions.

a group of us are waiting for the smow to come so we can venture up to Kielder and stay at a bothy, (if we can find one)while trudging knee deep in the stuff

Ps, my invites will only be for routes that don't need crampons because a) I don't have any and b) wouldn't want to spike my dog my mistake, she often walks close to my footsteps!
If we have a Winter like last year (here's hoping) then micro-spikes will be required for many though....

I'm looking forward to some good walks in the lakes especially when snowy. I'll post some up nearer the time, some will be short notice (based on a good forecast) but all will be dependent on the weather. I don't enjoy high walks in rain, mist or very strong winds... It might only mean a change of location or route for the day though. Flexibility needed if we a to have fun and be safe too😉
