Day walks
OD must be one of the best walking group sites, so why is it that so many people join and are never seen or heard of again? Weekend functions are great fun but may appear a bit intimidating for newcomers. Are more day walks as an introduction the answer?

Debbie D: it's all about feeling happy and being relaxed and enjoying the company and of course the walking and having fun and laughter and great memories it's what we do best๐๐๐
hi intend to put more day walks on in somerset for all levels of walking nice and relaxing great fun :๐๐๐
starting to believe that myself we are such a friendly group of people individuals who are reading these sensible comments do not be disheartened we do Day walks and you are truly welcome so don't be shy there are no hidden agendas we are there to enjoy great outdoors and make great friends and have lots of fun and laughter ๐๐๐
Good to hear that catwalker, have a good trip.๐
The messages really have cheered me up especially as I am sat marking coursework lol
Ah thanks everyone for the lovely messages!!I was kind of trying to say that some of the bickering on the site maybe part of the reason new members dont actually come to walks as it was quite off putting, some of the comments were just harsh and I want to have fun if I stay on the site. I loved the walks I have been on ๐
Debbie D: my goggles are safe if you ever need to borrow them your welcome to do so๐๐๐
Catwalker its a good job we didn't go up Twmpa ๐
R u parallel proficient now?
catwalker: ๐๐๐๐
Blue John: Thanks for the contribution John. You'll go far.
Deka: Open a separate thread Derek for quiz questions ๐
Thats a quiz question.....highest mountain in south wales Pen Y Fan ๐
catwalker: Thanks for that. What a mind of information you are. Fan y Big must have been the one some of us did the day before๐ค
I have to set a pub quiz for Wednesday. Can you send me forty questions๐ x
Lanky70: I feel "off topic" is an attempt to diffuse bad feeling ๐ค๐ค
catwalker: Was it only 4? Didn't feel like it๐ค
Debbie D: I still regard myself as a new member. The people I have met and the friends I have made is just fantastic. I learnt at an early stage to ignore what could be a contraversial posting on the Forum and instead just reap the warmth and encouragement of the friendly members.
Debbie D: look forward to meeting you, I'm also doing the 3 Peaks, will be fun, apart from all that walking ๐
Ditto those comments - t'internet always seems to give rise to a little dissent but I have never seen that out on the hill. The handful of walks I have done have been a real pleasure due to the company of OD folk.
On the subject of day walks, I have tried a couple of invites in recent weeks that have come to nothing, mainly down to weather.
I suspect though that the appeal of a day walk is more local as it is not worth travelling distance just for a day. Also, without the commitment of having made arrangements and got accommodation it is easier to back out if the weather is a bit dodgy.
I will certainly not be discouraged! ๐
Debbie D: Well you've chosen walks with two of my favourite leaders I know you'll have fun and all the encouragement you'll need.๐
I really did enjoy the Beacons walk ๐and I have signed up for the Yorkshire 3 peaks....
Debbie D: I'm hoping you enjoyed the Brecon Beacons and the company of those that attended. If so, bear those good thoughts in mind. Most people - if not all leave their troubles behind when they walk and it's that which keeps us going through the other things in life. ๐
Aww Paul, I'm sure that won't happen,
Oh by the way, hope your day improved ๐ ๐
Preggy we all wanted your goggles in the Beacons when the sleet came down, I will never take the mick out of you again ๐ Thanks for the comments guys I think the bickering just reminds me of work and that is why I joined to get away from it. I just felt uneasy when there were comments about new members I have never commented on here before but felt some of the comments were getting a little nasty and I am a bit well 5ft 3 softy lol
Debbie D: iv only been a member since july and its been life changing what a great bunch of friends๐๐๐๐
And i'm sure we all we enjoyed having you along Debbie D ๐ U2 Ladyliza ๐
Phil.... some people dream about things.... some people talk about things..... others just have a great time doing things.
More day walks...why not!๐
Debbie D: Ladyeliza is right, ignore it, shouldn't let it upset you and spoil your enjoyment of the site.
You have to remember its not their fault, they are only blokes after all ๐ ๐ ๐
Ignore the comments Debbie, it really is not like that on the walks. I have been on a few weekends and day walks and enjoyed every one of them.
I'm really pleased I found this site and don't
know where I'd be without it now. I've been on other forums and there always seems to be disagreements about one thing or another, that's life I guess, we can't all agree on everything. I just ignore it and read what I want to.
I am a new member and loved the two walks I have been on but at the mo some comments on the threads are making me feel a little a little uncomfortable
morningdawn: ๐๐
More day walks please, the weekends are great fun but unfortunately there may be others like myself who don't get many weekends or even two days off together plus can sometimes work out costly.
I'm sure most of us could at least get to a day walk. So come on guys and gals, get some walks posted in and around your areas and as Minty said days always filled with laughter ๐
