A beer in the hand is worth two behind the bar
Former Site AdminNot wanting to muddy the thread on the dearth of invitations I wanted to raise an item about people being taken for granted mentioned on that thread. I wonder how often an organiser is bought a beer/bottle of wine?
Arranging a meet can take a lot of organisation - especially things like Christmas Parties and trips over seas where there has to be numbers managed, bookings made and so on. I hope y'all show your appreciation .. ?!
When I was a Scout leader (I gave that up a year ago) it was rare for a parent to offer even a word of thanks for us volunteers who had just taken 30 kids on an amazing outdoor adventure for a week in summer. 🤔 We often created better adventures for £150 tha

I avoid disappointment, I never expect anything. The company on a walk is reward enough.🙂
I don't need or expect anything in return for my efforts. That's not what I meant when I said about being taken for granted.
Just a "thank you, I really enjoyed that!" will do for me and it's lovely when folk start threads post walk to say just that🙂
I've arranged a couple of walks to coincide with Mitch's camping week for the last 2 years and both years, he very kindly gave me a bottle to show his appreciation...but I didn't expect it. I'm not really much of a drinker anyway, to be honest.
If someone wants to buy me a coffee after a walk, then that's really nice...but I don't need any more than that.
