I wouldn’t have said that Germany were lucky. Through testing and contact tracing they knew who had the virus and isolated them plus contacts to prevent it spreading to older people. That to me is good management. Many younger people may have had it in the UK without us knowing about it.

Site admin, I found Reykjavik a surprisingly cosmopolitan city, especially Chinese visitors and most of the population of Iceland is on that peninsula so they were rife for an epidemic. Holland is the most densely populated nation in Europe and Rotterdam the busiest port but the Dutch appear to have done better than us. You are correct it is difficult to compare like with like but the US response has been pathetic and the UK definitely slow.

I am not sure its an easy comparison. NZ and Iceland are remote sparsely populated countries. The UK (excluding the highlands) is the most densely populated country in Europe 😮, with international trade links around the world and London as the World's most cosmopolitan city. Reykjavic doesn't quite cut it on the world stage 😉.

Germany were "lucky" at the beginning that the infections were amongst mostly young people, and they quickly instituted a test test test policy.

TW had the SARS experience and many Asian countries learnt a BIG lesson then. Korea had 100 testing stations prepared BEFORE their first CV19 case!

Though I do agree the UK response was a bit slow. ☹
