Sat 19th Jan 2019
A Tale of Two Castles
*** Update: 14/01/2019. Hi all. Weathers looking ok for the weekend and I've sent meal requests off to The Hatton Arms. Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend. It's going to be a great time in the Midlands. Take care on your journey's and I'll see you all soon. Safe travels all
*** Update: 03/01/2019. Hi everyone. Looks like it's going to be a great get together. I've had to shift the meal venue as the Queen and Castle couldn't accommodate such a large group on that date and time (18.30). I have provisionaly booked a party of 15 at the Hatton Arms. I will have to contact them again on final numbers. We'll be passing by the pub on our walk. If you could please have a look at the menu and decide what you would like for your meal I would be grateful. They have asked me to get everyones pre-orders to assure they will be well prepared for us. I'll go through the numbers over the weekend and then I will contact you individually through OD regarding your meal choice. Have a great weekend. Looking forward to seeing you all on the walks.

P.s. Could any maybe's decide if they are definites a.s.a.p. please and if you are interested in going for the meal after the walk. It would be a great help.
P.s.s. It may be a good idea for the people staying at the YHA to arrange car sharing between yourselves. It would make parking a little easier.
*** Update: 25/11/2018. Description details are now finalised and I will be taking names if anyone fancies eating in the Queen and Castle after the walk. Show your interest in the comments below or message me through OD. Also the link to YHA accommodation in Stratford is - https://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-stratford-upon-avon ***
Meet 09:15, Start 09:30 - Kenilworth Castle. Not the main car park, but the smaller free one that is over the road from the Queen and Castle pub. The pub's address is:- Queen and Castle, Castle Green, Kenilworth, CV8 1ND. The car park only holds about 30 cars. It's located almost on the bend where Castle Road and Clifton Lane meet. There is parking at the pub (Not cheap at £6.50 for 24hrs). Or you may get parked down Clifton Lane somewhere on the road.
The distance will be roughly 12 Miles, but it is over very easy going terrain. From Kenilworth Castle we will follow part of the Millenium/Centenary Way. Then a diversion from the way to explore a WW2 site of signicance :- https://ww2nation.com/exploring-banner-hill-camp-the-old-ww2-aa-battery-at-goodrest-farm/ . The AA Battery site is not generally open to the public, but I have arranged permission with the group who maintain it for us to be given access and have a mini tour .
From the AA battery at Goodrest Farm we will continue on to Hatton Locks (21 in all) and take a break for Lunch and Tea/Cakes at the Hatton Locks Cafe. After refreshments it's then just a few miles down the the Grand Union Canal before entering Warwick via the Racecourse and plunging ourselves headfirst in to it's historical heart. Lord Leycester Hospital will be our first stop :- http://www.lordleycester.com/ .
At this point we can either decide to explore the centre together or go off and do our own thing for an hour or two before reconnecting on Castle Bridge. The place for the iconic view of Warwick Castle. Once the pics/selfies are bagged it's time to jump on the bus (£4.70) back to Kenilworth for a drink and maybe a bite to eat in the Queen and Castle :- https://www.queenandcastlekenilworth.co.uk/ .
Be great to see you there, Ian .
