i Shall be mainly saving my knee's for the Snowdonia Ridge dancing, however i could very likely be on my MTB around the Elan valley later in the day and Sunday absorbing the tranquillity

This is a long journey for me for a day, but it is on fast roads nearly all the way, and will be worth it I think for 16/17 miles in mountains that I haven't walked before. I have put myself down as 'maybe' because if there is significant fog and/or hold-up on the roads then I won't get there in time – I'll try to ring or text you if this is the case. If I'm not at the start by 10am, please don't wait. In view of what you have said about the weather, if there is a significant deterioration in the forecast by tomorrow evening, I will change my status to 'can't come'. See you on Saturday I hope... Mark.

It would be good to see you if you can make it Mark. If it helps you are welcome to use our spare room on Saturday night. I will be riding bikes Sunday but can set you up with a map and route for more on Sunday! The forecast tonight is still looking OK for the intended route at any rate

Thanks, that's a very kind offer, but although I have OS Landranger Sheet 161, I don't want to walk alone in remote areas. Are you intending to walk NW along the ridge from Bal Mawr to Twyn Talycefn? If so, I was just thinking that if I don't get to Llanthony by 10am I might be able to join the ridge at GR 250302 and meet you somewhere around there – hopefully there will be a mobile signal high up.

I've just checked coverage on O2 (my network) – there's no signal in the Vale of Ewyas around Llanthony, but there is on the ridge.

Mark, we will be coming back that way, if we are fast enough. The outward leg is to climb North up Loxidge Tump and NW along the Offas Dyke Path to Hay Bluff. To meet us on that leg the only options are from near Capel y Ffin up through Vision Farm or park at Gospel Pass and reverse the track to Hay Bluff and then SE. Yes there should be a signal on top. There are plenty of safe options for a second day if you want it. Navigating the Blacks is pretty straightforward in clear weather as you are mostly on ridges.

Sorry, but I'm feeling a bit off-colour today, so I'm going to give this a miss. I hope you have a great walk tomorrow!
