Are you looking to tour, or do some up and down hill scary stuff. Its not really the best area for the latter, but there are quite a few bridleways and BOATs that can be connected for a good tour. "The Portway" is an ancient road now part off and part on-road that runs along the top - SW to NE. Either side of this there are steep drop offs down ridges and batches to the likes of the Strettons, Bridges, Minton, Wrentnor - some of which have pubs 🙂 You could conceivably take in the Stiperstones as well. The issue is how much up and down are you happy to do, and do you mind getting of bridal paths and BOATs?

p.s. There is an MTB map here:
http://www.mtb-shropshire.co.uk/content/uploads/map5.jpg with gradings. Happy to advise re: pubs too, though to be fair they're all pretty good in the area.

I rode there last year with Bigfoot - if you let me have your e mail I can send you a gpx plot of the route we did - basically a figure of eight that did the whole length of it and made sure we went down Minton Bach. Might even be able to come along if that would suit

When you say "Park the Van" do you mean an overnighter? There's a very basic and dead cheap campsite here:
http://www.hamperleycampsite.co.uk/ To overnight on the East side of the Long Mynd is tricky if you're looking for a pull in. Minton locals work hard to discourage parking and a van would be tricky there. On the West Side you could overnight and park safely on the Myndtown to Plowden road: http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=339270&Y=289475&A=Y&Z=120 There's a few suitable pullins - the arrow marks a particularly good one.

Routewise I suggest from the map I link to above:
Route 1 UP from Hamperly or the track just south of the Myndtown pull-in suggested leading up to the Shropshire Way (The Portway). Optionally drop DWN Route 2 or 3 and back up the road to the Glider Station. DWN Minton Batch. UP 9 (some road work) leaving route 8 as a possible later descent. Over Pole Bank to Shooting Box then DWN 10 - Cardingmill Valley. Unfortunately a popular walk so wath out for pedestrians.

UP 15, 14, 12, 11 and back to shooting box. If parked on the West side or you have energy to burn you can either take 6 OR 5 DWN - 5 is easier and faster - to 4 and Asterton then drift down the road to your van if parked there or back up to the glider station. OR if parked in Hamperly route 8 then a short road section back to Hamperly. Pubs nearest route are at Little Stretton route 9 and All Stretton route 14/15

Nearest postcode: SY6 6PP
Laybys mentioned above for overnighter near Myndtown safe enough and well placed for a south end start.
On the top Shooting Box marked on the map is a busy area and car park, and any of the laybys on the road to the glider club should be OK.
In Stretton CardingMill Valley has a huge pay and display as well.

Minton and Hamperly - unless you try your luck at the campsite, are best avoided.
