What has OutdoorDuo done for me?

  Add a 'What has ...'

I have met a very special lady through this site. Thank-you for your help
Barry M

It was a great experience to join OD back in April 2016 and meet some very nice like-minded people; I enjoyed some amazing walks that I would otherwise never discovered.
Happysoul77

I met M on the site about 2 years ago and we are now about to move in together. I keep recommending people to OD as it's been fantastic and I've loved being part of the 'family'.Thank you for everything.Vee

I have found someone and we are getting along very well. I am pleased I heard about your Site from a friend as I consider it to be a good genuine site for finding someone compatible. Many thanks

Did someone say scrambling? In Snowdonia?! Wonderful. Sounds like a nice weekend Ridgewalker. Hope I'm around.

Could have a little nibble at this rehab going well

KateB    on 05/02/18 @ 21:52 said:

Sounds great, I'd definitely be interested in this

Philtheetiler   on 05/02/18 @ 23:13 said:

Ridgewalker: as the leader have you done these routes previously ?

iansmyname.....orisitjohn?   on 06/02/18 @ 9:41 said:

Sounds great Paul. Would depend on dates and nice weather would be a bonus

Stephen   on 06/02/18 @ 10:05 said:

Camping at Idwal Cottage YHA typically costs ?13 pppn (?10 pppn for members) and allows you full use of the hostel facilities.
If you did want to book a bunkhouse, then they do tend to be booked up quite early.

Stephen   on 06/02/18 @ 10:07 said:

P.S. Why is it the site still won't allow you to use the pound sign?

Ridgewalker   on 06/02/18 @ 10:48 said:

Well the seeds have been planted and the interest is growing.
and a few questions to Answer.
Hi Philtheetiler a good question indeed, firstly the seed was planted to attract like minded scramblers with experience and a head for heights that wish to share some quality scrambling time, and may wish to buddy up or go solo or maybe in groups of three.
Secondly over the last 5 years i have a mixture of experience on some of these routes that in many cases are adaptable.
As for leading less experienced scramblers, i would suggest that anyone who has not succeeded in a few grade 2 scrambles would be advised to get some more experience in as i shall be pitching myself at above 2

Ridgewalker   on 06/02/18 @ 11:03 said:

Having looked at those showing an interest. they have a range of 3-5 stars against there scrambling desires. although that only indicates a wish.
i wouldn't lead anyone on a route if i didn't trust there ability to succeed in the challenge.
a few of us have scrambled a few times together during the last 18 mnths. and there are certainly others that are capable of leading a few routes.

Ridgewalker   on 06/02/18 @ 11:12 said:

If anybody has any dates in mind then please PM me. latter half of July is in my mind
Grades of scrambles are subjective and my desire is to enjoy a top quality scrambling long weekend on 2 - 3 scrambles mixing with others and sharing routes and experiance's
Stephen that's a good point about camping at the YHA

Dale   on 06/02/18 @ 15:01 said:

Would fri 13th July be any good? Good luck for me if it is. I am going to Matts Dorset weekend 6th July, could mess about a bit down there and on the return journey, enjoy this. Am doing Lazlo St Cuthbert walk Jul 26th. Have done a fair bit of scrambling and multi pitched rock climbing over the years so should be ok

Dale   on 06/02/18 @ 15:03 said:

Oops sorry, you said pm you

Snowdoniawhite   on 06/02/18 @ 17:22 said:

That date would be good for me too. And of a similar experience .

Jo J   on 06/02/18 @ 18:49 said:

Sounds brill. Yes please, if possible. Many thanks for posting this.

iansmyname.....orisitjohn?   on 06/02/18 @ 20:54 said:

I think you are on to a winner here Paul. Seems like there will be enough people interested and of suitable abilities and experience to arrange different levels of scrambles for days of the invite. So as not to scare anyone off less experienced and be open to all. It could remain dynamic and routes sorted out between the group at the time. I like the idea of that

Ridgewalker   on 07/02/18 @ 8:30 said:

Well its been a busy time on this forum over 24 Hrs.
i have also noted that my reference's to my preference scrambling grades the signs have got lost. to Clarify what my soul wishes to achieve over the week end are scrambles 2-Plus 3 3 Plus. or as Quoted by a site beginning with " W "

" While much of the enjoyment of scrambling depends on the freedom from technical apparatus, unroped scrambling in exposed situations is potentially one of the most dangerous of mountaineering activities. For this reason mountain walkers are advised to carry a rope on harder scrambles. Scramblers are also advised to know their limits and to turn back before they get into difficulties."

Ridgewalker   on 07/02/18 @ 8:35 said:

We have 2 adjacent week ends looking to be the favourites. so i shall see what my work options for booking a few days are.
Cwm Idwal Extreme Scrambling long week end

Dale   on 07/02/18 @ 9:41 said:

Like your thinking imnoiij

mirador   on 07/02/18 @ 10:07 said:

Sadly it looks like I may miss this after all as I am likely to be away from the 14/15th - just trying to get final co-ordination with others on that one!

Snowdoniawhite   on 07/02/18 @ 11:47 said:

iansmyname.....orisitjohn?: Your thinking implies having a few people available on the day to take those with less/little scrambling experience on less demanding routes to suit. I’m assuming you and Dale are happy to do that?

Dale   on 07/02/18 @ 13:04 said:

Oh no no no, I’m not that good or recently experienced and have some climbing kit but no rope. Im looking at grade 1-2. Don’t know the area or crags either. Really flattered by your assumption S W but now just a little scared

Ridgewalker   on 08/02/18 @ 8:47 said:

Splendid so far -- for anyone who has the desire to join us Cwm Idwal Extreme Scrambling long week end

then may i suggest that they research the location and its routes. then ask the question " have i/they experienced anything comparable " if yes then we may see you on a July week end.
Fitness and agility will be key along with a sound scrambling head

Ridgewalker   on 09/02/18 @ 0:12 said:

We all have a choice to meet out on the rocks at our chosen level or in the kitchens and dining tables where our free spirits wish to stay hope to share many a good vibe

Jez   on 09/02/18 @ 18:00 said:

Sounds a fun idea, love the Ogwen Valley, maybe could combine it with an OD Climbers weekend

Snowdoniawhite   on 09/02/18 @ 20:05 said:

Jez: Sounds good

Ridgewalker   on 10/02/18 @ 9:37 said:

Jez good thinking, it shall be a great week end that starts early

iansmyname.....orisitjohn?   on 11/02/18 @ 20:18 said:

Jez: The Ogwen valley is great without a doubt. I've spent many a time watching people climb there. Any thoughts on a follow up beginners climbing invite Jez. You have 2 keen customers when you are ready

Jez   on 14/02/18 @ 9:26 said:

iansmyname.....orisitjohn?: Will sort something out very soon, will make sure you're fully prepared for the Ogwen Valleys fine multi pitch climbs

CathyandDavid   on 14/02/18 @ 10:37 said:

We'd probably be able to join you mid to late July. We've got gear and experience up to Grade 3. David is a capable lead. Agree about fitness being the key...(as well as the obvious love of heights!) July 21st or thereabouts is start of school hols so places will be booking up...

Jo J   on 14/02/18 @ 21:48 said:

Will bring climbing and scrambling gear as well as walking stuff on Ridgewalker's 11 - 15th July meet. Sorry I can only confidently second & get myself up stuff so not able to offer to.lead climb. Have been to this area many a wonderful time. Happy memories, great to see it set up.as a meet

iansmyname.....orisitjohn?   on 15/02/18 @ 18:48 said:

Jez: Great . Cheers Jez. We will be looking forward to it. I'll go over the calender before the Box Hill invite and maybe we can sort some dates out then if you can make it? Not too sure we would be ready for multi pitch climbs in the Ogwen valley by July though..... . Outdoor climbs are ultimately the eventual aim and goal
