red screes, fairfield - EPIC :)by taz![]() ice, snow, ultra low cloud base and accompanied by gale force winds turned into a walk of true epic proportions Posted on 17/01/18 ![]() 5 Comment(s) |
Taz- a true adventure- well done all of you and keeping safe.
It can be quite vigorous and tough going, but I guess at the time we do like luv to feel our nature at it worst. It makes us feel alive.
Hope to see you in the future on one of our walks
Bea
Well done for getting round in that time! Did you ice skate?!
Pack your microspikes on your next visit or read this website first to know what to expect. The highest summits (and others close to Helvellyn) have been in winter conditions for few weeks now and Mountain Rescue extremely busy rescuing hikers who didn’t have spikes or crampons.

Spring:

time wise - i allowed an extra hour on top of what it usually takes to do this walk cos of me having people walking with me that might not be of the same ability
i did skate down great rigg - unintentionally as did my dog but it was all the better for it in my view - if you cant have some fun whilst your out then whats the point in going in the first place ?
i've got ice axes, crampons and micro spikes - i just made the mistake of not packing them (my bad) --- i'm going up on dollywagon via dovedale next wednesday or thursday which should be proper fun
i saw a weather forecast that showed a big influx of proper sweet fresh snow and minus temps all the time
have lots of fun later this week! Lots of sleet In Kendal today and local hills white again. Pack those spikes, Jake has his ready (auto-deploy mode! ) . Tizzie and I wont be out on the tops until Saturday but looking forward to it
Spring: enjoy your foray into the hills on saturday
and remember your spikes cos i think that for at least the next month everyone that goes up in the hills is going to need them

stay safe and have fun
